Causal Relationships Between Milk Yield, Body Condition Score and Fertility in Italian Holstein Friesian Dairy Cattle
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of the study was to explore genetic relationship among milk yield, body condition score (BCS) and pregnancy status (PR) in Italian Holstein cows using a recursive effects model. Two recursive models and a multiple-trait model were compared in four different subsets of data. The antagonistic effect of milk yield on BCS and PR was confirmed, as well as the positive relationship between BCS and PR. Recursive effects of BCS on PR was moderate, the strongest occurred between 80-110 DIM, and consist in 0.85% of probability for a cow to be pregnant for an extra point of BCS (i.e. form 2.5 to 3.5). The direct causal effect of MY on BCS was weak and increased during lactation, reaching -0.10 point of BCS for additional 10kg/d of milk (170-201 DIM).

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in the Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) Gene are Associated with Performance in Holstein-Friesian Dairy Cattle
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) has been shown to be associated with fertility, growth, and development in cattle. The aim of this study was to (1) identify novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the bovine IGF-1 gene and alongside previously identified SNPs (2) determine their association with traits of economic importance in Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle. Nine novel SNPs were i...

The study was carried out for a period of 150 days on 120 Holstein Friesian crossbred dairy cows between mid to late lactation to quantify the influence of body condition score (BCS) on yield and composition of milk. Total 12 dairy farms having same housing systems and holding at least 20 crossbred dairy cows per farm between mid to late lactation were selected for this study purposes. BCS of i...
متن کاملBody condition score and live-weight effects on milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian dairy cows.
The objective of the present study was to quantify the relationships among body condition score (BCS; scale 1 to 5), live weight (WT) and milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian spring calving dairy cows. Data were from 66 commercial dairy herds during the years 1999 and 2000. The data consisted of up to 9886 lactations with records for BCS or WT at least once pre-calving, or at calving, nad...
متن کاملImpact of nonadditive genetic effects in the estimation of breeding values for fertility and correlated traits.
The effects of inbreeding, heterosis, recombination loss, and percentage Holstein on the estimation of predicted transmitting abilities for fertility traits (calving interval, number of days from calving to first insemination, nonreturn rate, number of inseminations) and correlated traits (milk yield at test nearest d 110 and body condition score) were examined in a mixed population of Holstein...
متن کاملSingle nucleotide polymorphisms at the imprinted bovine insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) locus are associated with dairy performance in Irish Holstein-Friesian cattle.
The imprinted insulin-like growth factor 2 gene (IGF2) encodes a fetal mitogenic hormone protein (IGF-II) and has previously been shown to be associated with performance in dairy cattle. In this study we assessed genotype-phenotype associations between four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located within the bovine IGF2 locus on chromosome 29 and a range of performance traits related to m...
